Instagram is a puzzling “new” plan of attack for many small business owners. They hear all the kids are doing it, but don’t know where to get started for themselves and their business. We’ve broken it down to just 5 tips to get your Instagram off the ground.
1. Start with a clear goal
Consider how Instagram fits into your overall brand marketing strategy. Is your objective to increase awareness, shift perception, or reach a new audience? Pick a goal or two that can be achieved by connecting with Instagram’s highly visual and creative community.
2. Make your profile stand out
Your profile is the first thing people see when they click on your news feed. Make it stand out by including fun and important information about your business. Make use of the website field to direct visitors to your website, your Twitter feed or anywhere else that’s going to help drive people to follow you.
3. Embed your photos to the web
Do you have a photo that you want to share on your blog? Find the post via Instagram on the Web, click the menu button and choose View Photo Page, then open the menu button again and select the Embed option. The code that appears can be pasted anywhere else on the Web to showcase the picture. Each embed comes with a link back to the photo on the Web, however, this only works with public Instagram accounts.
4. Spend time editing your photo
Instagram added new editing features for your photos. Take the time to tweak and edit your photos to catch everyone’s attention. Sometimes just the filter doesn’t do justice. Bump up the highlights or brightness if it’s a little too dark. Or bring up the shadows and contrast for a deeper darker feel.
5. Add Hashtags
Hashtags can help people find your posts, but don’t use just any hashtag create something that will catch other’s attention. There are tons of Instagram users so pick something that will help you stand out from the crowd, but also help them find you. Lastly, make sure not to use too many hashtags that will muddy up and busy your post. Keep it clear, to the point, but interesting.
So there you have it. Take these tips and either start or tweak your Instagram account. Remember, this is all social media and don’t leave out the social aspect. Have fun with this and interact with others.
